"If leather-clad, tongue-pierced, preachers sermonize and punk bands lead worship, can it truly be church?"

I for one hope so, because it's what we're doing here.  We have a
weekly youth worship service here that is run by ministry teams made up of youth.  By giving them permission to use their musical gifts they continually interpret existing worship music in their style (Vineyard music has never been played faster) and write music in their own style. Our worship service has spawned a number of punk bands and when I attend their concerts I realize I am actually at a worship event.  I believe that the gospel must be contextualized in the surrounding culture. To put it another way, there is one purpose behind  church that guides us all, but there is no one style of church that is normative.
