Some thoughts for comments on the Crackers article: I like the idea of multi-cultural ministry, and blending of ethnic groups, but as I think on it, how far do we need to go? Is it really necessary to blend a black congregation and a white one? Are we weakening both of them by doing so?
The article asks if we would be willing to do certain things, even if it meant we lose some of our congregations? If there is a church reaching the black community, are we helping it by blending in a white mix? If there is a church effectively meeting the needs of baby-boomers, are we helping by blending in latino influences?
I think we need to be able to get together on foundational doctrinal issues, but as far as a how a particular church carries out the "great commission", do not specific groups reach certain groups more effectively than others?
Maybe we could organize meetings with all the churches involved as the author of Crackers tried to participate in, and that would build a solid community. We can't all be hands, feet, ears, etc. We are all fighting the same battle. I think it would be helpful to know just who all is on the same team, and then we would know how to lift each other up.
