wyoung,

I believe part of the problem is that we think we ARE doing okay as we are. When in fact, we may just be comfortably numb. It's easy to live separated from other cultures. It's more difficult to bridge those cultural gaps in order to praise One God. But I believe in attempting the seemingly impossible-- God is not only blessed, He blesses us.

I believe when the Holy Scriptures say "every tongue, tribe, and nation" it is still a voice of unison.

I also believe we tend to be TOO business pragmatic. Sure, white middle class congregations work. Latino congregations work. Black congregations work. Instead of asking "Does this work?" we may want to think more aesthetically. (i.e. "Is this beautful") A culturally diverse community reveals to an unbelieveing world the beauty of the Gospel in a very honest way.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'm still very aware of my anglo-ness. I feel like Steve Martin in the movie *The Jerk* when he says, "You mean, I'm gonna stay this color?!" Sometimes, I feel TOO white. I wish people would understand that I celebrate Martin Luther King Day too! He's a hero of mine even though I'm white. I don't have all the answers, but I wish to seek out the answers in a community of many colors. It's a hope I have.

Sorry about taking sooooo long to respond. Honestly, I don't check this message board very often. I will try to do so more frequently.

Once again thanks!

David Hopkins
