Hello all.

I am a fairly recent convert to evangelical Christianity after many years of seeking, and I am now a member of a Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church in New Zealand. Here is my delemma. Before becoming a Christian I had a love of sci-fi, an excitement about the future, about the possibilties of space travel, life extension and artificial intelligence, an interest in transhumanist ideas, and I still have an interest in these areas. I do not beleive in the imminent end of the world, and dislike the old "we have all the answers to every question" approach of conservative evangelicalism. I like living in a universe that still has mysteries to be solved. At the same time my evangelical faith is a great source of truth, salvation, healing and wisdom for me. Reconciling these two strands of my life has, and continues to be a serious challenge, they often seem totally incompatible. I have had other evangelicals tell me that my interest in sci-fi, scientific progress and the future is pointless and "un-Christian", whatever that means. I find reconciling these two important parts of my life very difficult, and I struggle with them almost daily. I have only recently come across "postmodern" evangelicalism, but it seems to at least point the way to the possibility of a reconciliation between them, or at least I hope so. I am wondering if anyone else has similar interests to me and what their experience has been in reconciling them with faith in Jesus and evangelicalism, and if postmodern Christian thinking and theology has been any help.

Lee.
