VCF Muskegon is a multi-generational church plant but at 32, and with a 29 year old wife, we are who we are. So while we are not specifically a postmodern mission point we are effectively reaching postmoderns. We have seen that most effectively happen through having people in our home. Every knows our home to be always open and a place where unplanned parties happen regularly. Among postmodern people we have most been effective with cultural creatives. (Probably the Thai food, good wine, and a safe environment to talk about ideas.) As for our mission statement it is "To be the love of God for the sake of the world." We have from the beginning of the church plant been very involved in inner-city work, and numerous Compassion-Kindness (CK) outreaches, Java the Hutt is a "rave" club ministry which uses both secular and Christian bands to reach out to the youth of our community. We have done coffee houses and other things but kinship groups and our open home seem to be most effective. We use communion every week and even in kinships, we put a high value on water baptism (immersion) but we fully embrace the whole church. We really stress not turning our backs on fallen Christians, including famous ones. I really don't have the answers but I am searching with the idea that collectively we might have a few of the answers...

I am two months away from graduating from seminary and I have been called to a church in Chicago. I want to be a student of the culture so that I can take what the secular world has called its own and reinterpret it on a higher level with the One that can move one from duplicity to authenticity. This means focusing on ministries that speak to specific groups of people. We can no longer employ spray paint programs that hope to blanket everyone at some time or another. Reaching postmodern people also means that we have to be postmodern prophets willing to meet the Jesus of others instead of simply making "our" Jesus the normative form of expression for the Christian faith. Finally, our worship must move from being uni-sensory to multi-sensory where we employ various and sundry mediums to speak to people. We now live in a post-literate world were linear and static thinking processes have been replaced by dynamic thought constructs. Instead of searching through age groups to make a college age ministry or a singles and young adult ministry, we have started a seed to plant a new ministry here that is based to reach people based on attitude not age. for the past eleven years bordercross has operated the iron horse club. the iron horse allows not on christian artists and bands to perform, but secular rock/punk bands. we do this on fridays and saturdays, and have our worship services on sunday. bordercross has a celtic like approach to the faith and use music and traditional symbols from church history.
