Band turns stones to soup....

By Chris Friedrich
I am part of a contemporary Christian band ("Catch") in Richmond, Va.  here is
a sort of "soup from a stone" story about faith, humility, and the mystery of God's plan:

Our lead singer, Rebecca, met two overseas missionaries who were home on
furlough.  They met at a small prayer group meeting of her church.  There
was, at some point, a brief discussion how costly it is to sustain a missionary effort.

At our next practice, we decided that we could put on a concert and try to raise money for them.  At the time, it seemed like an enormous task.  We needed so many details worked out. But, since we were working with God, things all started to fall in place.  Our drummers' son also is in a band ("Last One Standing"), and they decided to play also.  Someone volunteered to create a promo poster. Rebecca donated her back yard as the site. Another gentleman volunteered to build a stage. We arranged for electricity, which was in the form of a portable generator. Piece by piece, what seemed like too much for us to accomplish was turning out just fine.

To get to the final point: We seemed to have a small turnout, maybe 50 people, which included band family and lots of children.  I went home thinking the whole thing was a beautiful affair, but a shame that we didn't have a good turnout. Guess what?  Around $1000.00 was donated!  I was truly astounded.

I think stone soup is my favorite flavor.

God bless you all for taking a contemporary tack toward evangelization.
We make quasi-regular appearances at the local juvenile maximum-security lock
up.  these kids are coming from Godless homes, and their religion is a
poisonous cup of mass-media hype and hogwash.  We're hoping a touch of
modern music with the message of Jesus will antidote that poison.
